Growing up, I loved dollhouses, especially those of older homes filled with antique furniture. I imagined myself stepping into that miniaturized world. Well, in Gonzales, Texas, I got to step through the looking-glass and into one of those dream houses.
I was provided lodgings and travel compensation for the purpose of this review.
The opinions, however, are all mine and a truthful reflection of my experiences.
Historical Beauty in Gonzales, TX
Not-so-little Diva and I headed west on the first weekend of October to experience the Come and Take It Celebration for the first time. A huge event Gonzales, we were already excited to be there. The excitement exploded when we pulled in front of our home for the time – the St. James Inn.
Through these doors is a Victorian wonderland harkening back to a gilded time in the history of Texas. As we were a threesome – NSL Diva, my Momma, and me – we were surprised by the lovely proprietor Ann with the penthouse. Tucked up high in the rafters, and up quite a bit of stairs, this room is the definition of charm. In every corner.
The 11-year-old and the 11yo inside me found the antique toys that greeted us to be a bonus. Especially as a truly miniaturized house sat inside this dream house.
Better yet, however, the owners – the Coverts – offer warm smiles and friendly conversations. The breakfast is high-quality, far more than the standard waffle, cereal fare. On Sunday, they extended the brunch to share the stories of Gonzales and the house. This history nerd loved, Loved, LOVED this.
I will definitely be back to Gonzales and St. James will be our first stop. By the way, if you find the house as beautiful as I did. It’s for sale. If you’ve always dreamed of owning a B & B, this might be just what you’re looking for. If not, head there quickly to catch some of the best hospitality Texas has to offer.
