I am in the middle of about six blog posts trying to catch up everything great that has happened in the past week but I couldn’t wait to share! Something beautiful happened that reaffirmed why we’re doing this. Where we lived in Austin, the kids were blessed with many wonderful school friends but they didn’t have block friends — you know, the kind where you walk next door and just knock on the door and ask to play.
We have stayed at this particular park for over a week now and the kids have made several friends. This afternoon, Little Diva and Sonny-Bunny appeared at the door with six other kids in tow. They asked if their friends could join us for lunch. Looking at the size of the crew, we were a bit startled but said, “what the heck!” We ordered a pizza and invited the group inside to play while they waited. The trailer got loud with laughter and talking but in a wonderful way. When pizza arrived, they all gathered outside at the table. With Caprisuns passed around, we officially had a party.
Sometimes, we have doubts about what we’re doing. The kids miss their friends and school and neighborhood. Moments like this on-the-spot pizza party go a long way to make that up. There is a big give and take to this life and there are sacrifices. Some days, however, there are wins. This was a win.
