There is much to be said for visiting smaller communities near larger metropolises. Outside of Dallas is the growing community of Frisco. Set North of Dallas, it is near the Dr. Pepper ballpark. Frisco contains many of the larger chain stores and restaurants, as well as locally-owned and run establishments.
Set in the far west side, there is a small marina and campground on Lake Lewisville called Hidden Cove Park and Marina. We stayed there for a week as we explored the greater Dallas area. The marina is very pretty and we had a nice view of the lake from our spot. There were not many amenities provided for the $50/night rate and frankly, there was some confusion with our reservation but the location was very pleasant.
In Frisco, we continued our pizza hunt with Luigis. Set in a strip center, it has a nice diner feel on the inside with patio seating available outside. The pizza was a New York style which we enjoyed. We are racking up quite a few pizza joints in our travel journal!
The commute to Dallas was very easy though it did have a lot of traffic during rush hour as it is a bedroom community for the city. We planned most of our trips in town for the 9:00-4:00 hours to limit the congestion.
We enjoyed the quieter pace of the marina and town as we made our way around the much larger city. Thanks Frisco!
