New Orleans holds a special place in the hearts of Mr. Hero and I. We went there for our honeymoon and have gone back for several anniversaries. We were excited then to break up the trip to Houston with an overnight stay.
We stayed at the Pontchatrain Landing RV Park. It was a quick hop off the road that was less than ten minutes from the Quarter but didn’t require driving a large trailer through the narrow streets of New Orleans. The staff was really nice and helped Mr. Hero back in to the spots. (You might remember that we have had some struggles with that.)
After getting settled, we immediately headed into town for our burgeoning tradition — finding great local pizza. This trip brought us to Louisiana Pizza Kitchen.
It was a lovely night so we sat on the patio. Here’s Mr. Hero being heroic (or at least, handsome)…
And like father, like son…
I mean, he is just too grown-up here. He’s sporting the hat we bought at the French Quarter market. And we can’t forget Little Diva doing her best Southern belle and getting ready for a second-line.
Then came this…
We really enjoyed this pie. It had a crispier crust than we usually choose but the sauce was great and the cheese was baked just right.
We then walked through the Quarter. It seems I walked right past Anne Rice and missed her. Hubby saw her and knew I would be disappointed but couldn’t get me to see her without screaming “Traci, look! It’s Anne Rice!” Not sure, if I’m glad he spared me the embarrassment or not. Anne Rice, if you ever see this (which you won’t but a girl can dream), we had a close encounter, you just didn’t know it.
Among the stores, we came across Hex. Little Diva thought she wanted to go in. It had a really cute sign with a pun. Those of you who may not be readers at my other blog may not know, but I love puns, a LOT.
So I was game. We stepped in and Little Diva decided it was a “real” store and ran out just shy of screaming. Guess we won’t be headed to Marie Laveau’s House of VooDoo anytime soon.
Finally, we ended the evening perfectly at Cafe du Monde. Sonny-Bunny had been introduced to beignets by a friend. Mr. Hero and I couldn’t wait to share our favorites with him, as well Little Diva.
One night is not near enough to show the kids why we love this city so much. We will be back but until then, good night NOLA from the Star Family.
