We finished Day One in Galveston at the Strand. It’s another great Main Street of old. We strolled up and down the street and visited a wide array of stores ranging from surf shops to knife stores to curios. While it was rainy, most of the stores are under awnings or covered walkways.
We finished the day at La King’s Confectionery. The kids took in the beautiful colors of every candy conceivable. I think they were a little overwhelmed even. I mean, that is a lot of candy!
We then sat down in the white heart shaped chairs to enjoy Ice Cream Sodas. I had vanilla and oh my, was it good!
I love the architecture — the same I remember from my childhood; a throwback to the days of drugstore counters.
I really love finding places where things are the same as they’ve always been. (And if you’re humming Talking Heads now, you’re welcome.) It’s the very sense of history we are hoping to share with them.
After a day of exploring and shopping, exhaustion has set in. I’ll share Day Two tomorrow. Good night.
