As a part of our trip to Fredericksburg and homeschooling, we visited the Pioneer Museum. It is a collection of actual homes and structures (some in their original locations) offering a glimpse into past lives. Decked out with furnishings of the time and audio from family members, it is an engaging and sensory history lesson.
Here is a “Sunday House”; a phrase I had never before heard. Sunday Houses were one-room townhouses for rural families. It was a place to stay for Saturday marketing and yes “Sunday” church.
This was my kiddos’ reaction to Pioneer living.
It seemed pretty perfect to share the Sunday House with Unknown Mami’s Sundays in My City.

I’ve never heard of Sunday Houses. Look at that, you’re teaching me stuff. Well done, mama.

I aim to please… haha.
I had not heard of them before either. Pretty cool, right?

I never heard of a Sunday House, either. It makes sense. My grandparents lived very close to a church but the trading center was far enough that they went only a few times a year when they were younger, and they did not have a car.

I had not heard of them before but I agree, they make so much sense. The thought of life without cars and/or easy transportation is daunting.

Very interesting. I wonder if Sunday Houses were free to use.
Traveling Star says
That’s a good question. I didn’t think of that.
