Today, we visited Fredericksburg, Texas. What a cool place! It is full of history and fun.
We started with breakfast at the City Cafe. We had pancakes and some of the best bacon I have ever had. Sonny-Bunny actually pushed away the pancake to start with the bacon.
We then headed down Main Street to the Pacific War Museum. When I was a child, my parents took me there but it has grown so much. No longer housed only in the Admiral Nimitz building, it has grown to include two gardens, a circle of Presidents, and a gigantic new interactive museum that follows the roots of the Pacific war all the way through the surrender ceremonies. I will share more details in a second post because it was a huge experience. Let me just say that it is a perfect example of why I am homeschooling. It is a very visceral and offers more information that a two page entry in a textbook ever could.
After the museum, we strolled the delightful Main Street.
We hit the Candy Bar
and rode Old Paint.
We discovered General Stores and a Five and Dime.
I think there is so much opportunity for learning in these smaller towns. Fredericksburg has done a wonderful job of maintaining the heritage of the city.
We stopped for lunch at Pasta Bella which is where I will have to stop because I need to sleep for another big day.
More to come…
