Day 8 — A Proper Tour

January 8, 2015 by Traveling Star 6 Comments

Today it occurred to me that I have not welcomed you properly into our new home or as my Dad would put it — the place to sleep and shower as really are home will be wherever we land that night. We have tried however, to make it our own. We let the kids decorate their spaces and I love pillows (to my husband’s dismay — the number of arguments he and I have had over the difference between decorative and sleeping pillows, aargh!) so there are a lot of pillows!

Here is the long view:

Long View

To the right you can see the “dining room”. Here is the kid’s room:

My son has gone with an Avenger theme as you can see straight ahead. There is an extra bunk to the right and a sitting area below. The stairs go up to Little Diva’s area.

Kid's Bedroom Bunks

It’s harder to tell but Little Diva went with a Monster High theme. It’s an Avenging Monster theme, I guess.

I’ll spare you the restroom. Should you come visit us in real life, we will make that available to you but it doesn’t make for very good pictures. ๐Ÿ˜€

Heading back, here is the kitchen:

This was a big deal for me. Mr. Hero and I came to an agreement. I got to pick the trailer and he picked the truck. We had almost settled on a different trailer when the salesperson (a woman) suggested that I look at this one. When I walked in and saw that island (yes, and island!), I fell in love. I didn’t even have an island in my (then) home. There is lots of hidden storage for food and it gives me a lot of prep area. Well, a lot of prep for a trailer.

Looking over the island, here is the view of our living room. Think of it as an open floor plan — a 60 sq. ft version — haha!

Living Room

Yep! That’s the living room — the couch can become a bed and the TV rotates into the bedroom. The DVD player and radio are built-in. Multi-use and built-in are very important in 320 sq. ft.! This is, by the way, is where you walked in. Finally, here is our bedroom:

So that’s our home on wheels. I hope you are going to tag along for the ride. It may be small inside these (aluminum) walls but the internet is enormous. There is plenty of room.

Have you ever spent time in a trailer or an RV? For how long? How did you make it your home?

I spent a couple of months in a Volkswagon Combi. The kind with the pop-up roof. We customized the interior with storage for our dive gear, including tanks and spearguns, under the bed. There wasn’t much room at all, but it was so much fun. We drove down the coast from Vancouver, BC to Chula Vista, CA, then across to Brownsville, Texas, over the border and down to Palenque in Chiapas, before heading to the Yucatan Peninsula and Belize. It is a dream of mine to road trip with my daughter. Have fun, and let me know if you’re heading toward California!

I spent over 15 weeks living in an RV (32′ Class A) and travelled 15k miles around this country several years ago. Wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. Best advice is to spend as much time as possible out of the RV exploring and experiencing the outdoors, especially when you are feeling a bit cramped indoors. I had an outdoor gas grill I would pull out and would try to have my meals outside at campground picnic tables rather than indoors. (Based on the cold weather now, that is most likely not possible, but it will be warm soon enough). I travelled with my black lab and we did a lot of hiking together.
Also, make sure you protect your tanks and water lines in the cold weather. If you don’t have tank heaters, try to travel where it isn’t below freezing.

Great advice! We definitely hope to be out and about as much as possible. We plan to chase the mild weather as best as we can. The outdoor grill is a great idea.
      Thanks!

Looks super nice! The island was a definite win! I like how everyone made each space their own. The little basketball hoop is priceless. FWIW, we have the same pillow issue here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Glad to know that I am not alone in the mighty pillow battle.
